Look at this beautiful Tunis yarn I got from Tarheelbilly Farm. It’s from the sheep Hollis. I think I might dye it. I have 1000 yards. What shall I make? It is a Shave’Em to Save’Em yarn! If you are participating, get it while it lasts!
Here’s my turmeric dyed Cotswold. I fixed the color with vinegar and relanolized the yarn. Much better. The color no longer comes off on my hands and it’s softer. What shall I make?
I love that personal touch the farm has done, with the detail of the actual sheep. The colour is so intense on your turmeric dyeing, natural dyes often give a bit of a washed out colour, but this is so rich.

Thanks! It became darker as it dried, which I thought was interesting.

The cotswold would make a gorgeous cowl. I envision something with lots of texture that’s wrapped around a few times:) Whatever you make will be beautiful!
What color will you dye the new yarn?

I’m not sure. I might research natural dyes and see what appeals. I think for the Cotswold I will swatch and maybe it will tell me what it wants to be.

Will you use more natural dyes for the new yarn? The turmeric turned out gorgeous, there must be other things that work as well as that for different colours.

Yes I think I will do some research for a natural dye I can use for the Tunis.

That turmeric yarn is such a handsome colour. I too think that a shawl would be lovely. Or a sweater/vest (a boxy kind). Or basically anything. Have you ever used indigo or henna for yarn? Can henna be used with yarn?

I don’t know if henna can be used for yarn. But I reserved a bunch of natural dyeing books at the library. I’ll let you know! A shawl might be nice.

I’ve never thought about henna for yarn but the idea just popped into my head…

That’s a beautiful color, Alissa!
Is this a fine wool? A draping elegant shawl might be lovely.

It is fine. When I wound it today I noticed it doesn’t have much elasticity. A shawl might be good. I wonder if I could weave with it.

I can’t wait to see what you do with the Tunis. For the Cotswald I think a 2 color shawl with navy (perhaps indigo dyed by you) would look amazing.

Oh wow, that is vibrant! Hollis the sheep cracks me up, but what nice yarn!

You got some beautiful yarns! That turmeric dyed yarn is just gorgeous – such deep color! With 1000 yards of worsted, you could probably make a sweater, or maybe a poncho or capelet?
