Look at this gorgeous fabric I ordered. Unfortunately it weighs a ton. It is bonded! If I made a jumpsuit out of it, I’d feel like I was wearing a carpet. I think it will make a nice coat, though. So I’ll look for a coat pattern on Seamwork. I think my last issue of Ottobre has a coat too.
In the meantime, maybe I’ll try to make the jumper out of some knit fabric I purchased for a dress but never made. Then I can put it on hold until spring.
Whenever I get any new fabric or yarn, I take it to my studio. Then I think, why? I’m moving out of here in less than a month! I’m sad about giving up my studio, but I know it’s the right thing to do.
I don’t know if I will be able to sew after I move out. I’m guessing most of my things will go to the basement. I think I will keep my studio membership which allows me to use the sewing machine and sergers there. There is also a local sewing business where you can go and rent the use of a machine for $10 an hour. The problem is I need to be alone when I sew. I don’t have the ability to sew and chat, unfortunately.
Are you a community sewist or a solo sewist?
I struggle to communicate when doing any crafting, do suspect sewing would be the same. Do you have an option to convert some of your basement into a sewing studio? That’s what my friend Annie in Michigan has done, she’s got a huge cutting table and sewing machine area and no need to pack it all away at the end of the day.

Our basement is too damp. Maybe I will be able to do that when we move.

If one teaches for enough years, one learns to do ANYTHING in company! Well, anything that can decently be done, I guess. So I seek out people with whom to knit, and don’t mind company when I sew, or cook, etc. It is hard to read while talking; I avoid that.

I am a solo sewist. I really need to focus when I’m sewing.

Hope something works out for your sewing – I do love your projects and your updates. (And the fabric is gorgeous, it’d make a lovely coat!)
While I don’t have a problem with chatting while making, it does feel like I’m not focusing 100% on either – I make things so I can immerse myself in them, so I lean towards being left alone.

That is beautiful fabric and will make a lovely coat.
You’ll have to put sewing space on the wish list for your new home:)

It will be a lovely coat! I’m pretty much solo on my crafting and sewing.

Beautiful, beautiful fabric! What a shame you can’t use it as planned, but I’m sure it would make a lovely coat as well.

That’s a nice fabric. If you made the jumpsuit with that heavy fabric, it would be a workout when you wear it! 2-in-1 suit! I’m a solo sewist, although I’ve not sewn in company since school but I’m pretty I’d get rattled…

That is beautiful fabric – it will make a beautiful coat! I am a disaster at sewing in general, so couldn’t say on that. With other crafts, it depends. If it’s a pretty intensive project, I need to focus. If it’s just plain knitting or a really simple pattern, I can be social at the same time 🙂
