I woke up waaaay too early this morning. 3AM! I did go back to bed at 5AM and slept until 7AM.
Fiber Art

Bad news. I over-processed my flax. I think it was over-retted. Or over-dried. It’s crispy fried.

You can see the bast fibers, but they are brittle and break when I try to break off the woody stem on the outside.
Flax harvesting season landed right in the middle of summer cold season and colonoscopy week. That’s my excuse. I might try again next year, or I might try growing nettle for fiber. I’m still processing the seed pods I was able to collect.
Knitting

I finished my Milkshake Cardigan this week, which I posted about on Friday. Other than that, I’ve been focusing on my Cemetery Drive cowl. I did cast on my Turning Leaves Point Edwards Mitts and am excited to knit them because they are DK and should fly!
Sewing

I finished my second pair of Halloween PJ pants. I’ve cut out my lavender linen dress and will sew it today.
My garden is a mess! It’s too hot out there. I’ll leave the rest for the critters and clean it up in the fall.
This has been a Year of Projects update. You can find out more about the group here (Rav link) or here: Backstage Kath’s YOP bloggers list. You can read my updated list of projects here.
Sorry to hear about your flax not being usable. Your hat certainly is looking very cute. Agree it is way to hot to do any gardening. Heat is supposed to break for us this week so I can finally get some grass cut.

That’s too bad about the flax but it’s good to learn things too. I can’t imagine even trying to do that! I love the pj pants too – you’ve done a lot of sewing recently!

Your Milkshake cardi is fantastic. It will be perfect to wear over your tops to give you a bit of warmth. The cowl is coming along nicely. I am so sorry to see your flax did not turn out the way you were planning on. Cute PJ pants.

As evidenced by your flax situation, gardening is an experiment. I tell people that here in Oklahoma, except for a bit of watering, we stopped caring for our gardens when the heat sets in (July-August) and when it ends, we clear away the debris and start again.

That’s such a shame about the flax. Would re-wetting it make any difference or is it toast? Hopefully you have lots of seeds to send back and some to try again if you fancy. The woods behind the house have thousands of ginormous nettles that grow, I could do all the walkers a favour and chop it and process it but it all sounds like a lot of effort and with fleece to wash still I probably should keep doing that. Maybe one year I will, I’ll be interested to see how you get on if you do plant nettles next year.

Your projects are already setting the Halloween (and fall) mood – hope you enjoy making and wearing them.

Your unspinnable flax can be fall outdoor decorations! Or fire starter- it looks like it would readily burn.
I really love all your fall/Halloween projects. Last year I remember coveting your Halloween button up blouse.

I love those colors in your Cemetery Drive Cowl. And I love your attitude about your late summer garden. 🙂 I didn’t plant a single thing this year (just didn’t have it in me), but by late August I tend to give up on growing things, I’m so ready for autumn.

Your cowl looks great! Very Halloweny colors 🙂 And your PJ pants are awesome too 🙂 So sorry to hear about the flax – is there a chance it will soften at all?

I think it’s too fragile, even if I got it wet and tried to soften it.

Doh! I’m sorry to hear that.

I love how your cowl is looking and those Halloween PJ pants are awesome! So sorry about your flax, I’ve never grown flax but sounds like something that I would want to try in the future.

I am impressed you were attempting to work with the flax. I am sure you learned a lot for another attempt next year. I love the Halloween pajamas!

So sorry about your flax! You definitely had good excuses though! I love your cardigan. I am not a fan of the no buttons cardigan style which is so popular. The Milkshake cardigan is right up my alley and it looks SO nice on you! The cowl is adorable….it’s got me tempted for sure. The Halloween pants are a hoot and very cute! I love everything you make! Have a great week!
