Knitting
I finished something and frogged something and updated my list. In the meantime I’ve been looking for something shiny to bring my knitting twinkle back. Something new, in Christmas Red.
I have some gorgeous Fibre Company Arranmore that’s been languishing in my stash. The color is a beautiful red named Ruari. I think I’m going to make a Ranunculus. I looked at other projects for this pattern, and some have been made in Aran weight. It looks just the thing: top down, festive lace at the yoke for holiday cheer, and then loads of stockinette.
Sewing
I’m really on a roll with my sewing. I have a bushel basket on my sewing table that I keep my current WIPS in, and it’s empty! I think I will pull out that plaid flannel that want to make into a wrap skirt. Having projects out inspires me to work on them. However, I am having trouble finding a pattern. It looks like I will have to take measurements and make my own pattern. This is a good exercise for me, as I haven’t done it in over a decade.
Spinning
My first attempt. I’m going to keep practicing on the merino top they sent until I get something usable. Progress not perfection!

The yarn is GORGEOUS! I have the Ranunculus in my queue. I can’t wait to knit it. What weight is that yarn?

Really! I was planning on using a fingering weight. I will follow this with great interest. I think the pattern is written for different weights though.

It’s written for two fingering held together, and then the bigger version – which is what I’m making – is written for worsted.

Ranunculus: I could make some snarky comments (like the reason there are so many very cropped versions shown is people got bored with all that stockinette!) but I love the lace at the top. And I see that several versions made it a slightly higher neck; I would, too. I love your yarn, and that will be a quick knit and perfect for the holidays.
It’s been a long time since I made a skirt of any kind; I had a Simplicity A-line wrap skirt pattern that worked really well with plaid. But the beauty of it was how simple it was – I’m sure you can draft a pattern that will look great on you!

I know the Grocery Girls who are not small ladies made a ranunculus with 2 skeins of fingering and one of mohair lace together. Looks like you’ve enough yarn there to make another decent sized project with leftovers too. I like the lace and look of the lace down, but haven’t got the skills to change the very wide neckline so it’s not fallen into my shopping basket. Perhaps when I have the skills to alter a neckline I’d make it one day.

The color of the yarn is gorgeous. Perfect forca Christmas sweater. The p a there you have chosen will be perfect too. Good job on your sewing. Those joggers look quie comfy. Loved the Canadian pants from earlier last week.

That red yarn is really pretty! And I hope you enjoy the learning process of spinning! I know I found it frustrating at first, but once I got into the rhythm it became so much more fun!
