Happy Thanksgiversary!

Yesterday was Canadian Thanksgiving and also our 7th wedding anniversary! We hiked Middle Head, a bit of the Cabot Trail near Ingonish, then had a lovely dinner with Bob’s folks.

After that we went to another Celtic Colours concert and I found a new to me band that I really like, Kinnaris Quintet. I bought the CD. That’s how much I liked them.

The drive to the trail was an hour and a half there and then back again, so I knit several rounds on my Weekender.

Today we’re taking it easy. No hikes today, just a few errands and knitting and movies and leftovers.

Intrepid Saturday

It’s a rough and rainy day here today. We ventured out to the Iona Port Farmer’s Market but after that the rain and wind started in earnest.

Still a beautiful day on the island.

I’m pretty excited about my new book, and pleased I’ll be able to use up my Scout yarn on some of these projects.

In the meantime I’m knitting away on my Weekender.

Day 1 in Cape Breton

We had a lovely little hike around Dalem Lake today. It is truly autumn up here with turning leaves 🍁 and a crisp chill in the air.

I’m going to have a hard time sticking to my diet. I had a wonderful cup of seafood chowder for dinner with a gluten free biscuit. I also had a salad. 👍 I’m stuffed and there are gluten free cookies from the bakery that need eating.

I knit a few rounds on my Weekender today. Tomorrow we are heading to the fiber festival in Baddeck!

The Good News

We’ve been in and out of airports all day, but the good news is I checked out a knitting mystery from the library, A Dark and Stormy Knit.

It’s full of knitting (duh) and mystery (uh yeah) and puns! It also has fiber art and knitting graffiti! It’s the perfect vacation read.

When we got to Newark I found I had twisted my knitting on Weekender. The good news is I had an hour to tink back two rounds and fix it. When I got to Halifax I realized my center ridges weren’t right but the good news is I had several hours to eat a delicious meal (local cod cakes and a glass of Nova Scotia white wine) and then pull out two stitches back to the mistake and fix them. (I couldn’t find the correct knitting slang for this, but while looking for it, I did find this hilarious guide to knitting slang. My non-knitting loved ones will thank me.)

We have another hour before boarding our flight to Sydney, but the good news is the leaves are already in full autumnal glory here, b(oy)ize. And I’m not just talking about that red maple leaf, eh?

Monday, A List

unless-you-fell-off-the-treadmill-and-smacked-your-face-no-one-wants-to-hear-about-your-workout-4466b

1. I know no one wants to hear about my workout, but I’ve recently started circuit training at the gym: 15 minutes rowing, 15 minutes elliptical, and 15 minutes interval walk/run on the treadmill. Today I ran for 7 minutes straight, and I was so happy. I never thought I would run again.

2. This weekend was our Strategic Planning Retreat for work, so today’s unspirational quote is on point. I’m glad when I took the Game of Thrones quiz I was Jon Snow and not Daenerys Targaryan.

3. Yarn bombs in Bloomington, IN.

4. On Sunday, while in Bloomington, we went hiking at the Amy Weingartner Branigin Peninsula Preserve. It was beautiful.

5. Hair goals above, only salt and pepper. This is also a pretty good show, if you like horror. But, we recently watched Marianne on Netflix, and it was so good, I’m ready to binge watch it again!

6. We will be in Nova Scotia in 2 weeks and 2 days!
