Scrap Happy April

Last year about this time, I made a slew of Melba Dresses. This was the first one. It was too big to begin with, and is unwearable now. I wish I could alter it, but the neckline is gigantic. There’s not much I can do about that.

But I love this fabric! So I decided to make good on my long-held promise to sew myself some underwear. I was hoping to get a bra out of this dress, too. Alas, there is not enough fabric. Can you believe that? I’m also planning to make a bra and underwear set out of my Paranormal Day dress fabric scraps. I’ll post updates!

More Dresses

I finished sewing my Felix dress. I love it! This was a challenging sew for me, but I did a good job. The pattern is rated as intermediate, and is lined. I learned a lot!

Pattern is Felix Dress by Grainline Studio. Fabric from Mood. Lining is teal Bemberg viscose. I was impressed with the lining fabric as well, and won’t be suspicious of viscose in the future. I love this design, and will probably sew a sleeveless version.

I sewed another Melba dress, this time in black cotton interlock from deep stash. I skipped the facings and bound the neckline, and prefer it. I hemmed the sleeves. This fabric is lightweight, and I expect I will wear this all summer with nude clog sandals. This was on my spring sewing list, so I’m glad to get this done.

I tend to do more sewing in spring and summer, and more knitting in fall and winter. What about you?

Happy Paranormal Day!

Did you know May 3rd is Paranormal Day? I didn’t either, but I follow a lot of paranormal accounts, so that’s how I found out. How does one celebrate Paranormal Day? If you’re like me, you combine your special interests and sew a paranormal themed dress!

Yep, it’s another Melba Dress in Spoonflower “Phantasmagoria” fabric, which I caught on sale. I’m planning to wear this to the Ohio State Reformatory on May 21 for ParaPsycon. Bob and my kids are taking me for my birthday!

I like this dress paired with ankle boots and a denim jacket, but I’m a child of the 80’s so I like everything with a denim jacket.

I felt like this dress was screaming for a scarf (see what I did there) but now I’m not so sure.

I think I might need a spooky statement necklace and dangly earrings.

I’m planning to knit a Halloween cardigan this year, too, and I’m hoping it will work with this dress.

Wednesday: a WIP and a Win

I’m still plugging away on the Ocean Moon mystery knitalong, Clue 1. Clue 3 drops tomorrow! I hope to catch up this weekend. I am liking the yarn colors and the design. I’m getting the hang of intarsia again, though I’m slow.

I finished sewing my Melba dress. I feel very chic wearing it. It looks great with my clogs and sunglasses.

The fabric is organic cotton knit from Spoonflower. It says, “Born to Knit” and “Knitting Takes Balls.” I’m very happy with it. My only complaint is the boat neck is too wide. I’ll adjust that on the next one I sew.

Pattern is Melba Dress from Style Arc. This pattern also works with woven fabrics.
