I’ve had a few requests to talk about the pockets. Cocoknits calls these “kangaroo pockets.” I’ve never knit pockets like this before, but it was really simple. I don’t feel comfortable sharing any proprietary info. I looked for a tutorial but didn’t find one. Instead, here’s a link to my newest favorite knitting podcast by Gaye Glasspie, where she talks a little bit about the Franca pockets, but also does not give away the pattern. If you just want to see the pockets, forward to timestamp 23:55. Ladies and Gents, we have pockets

The pattern calls for whip stitching or “seaming” the pockets closed. I did a mattress stitch because I wanted the pockets to look as good on the inside as the garment looks on the outside. That’s the only change I made to the pattern.

Somehow I got away with ten skeins of yarn instead of the eleven called for. I guess it’s because I’m a loose knitter?

I really enjoyed knitting this and I learned some new tricks. The collar is a little fussy, but it’s the first thing you do, and it’s really elegant. I had to make it twice to get it right. But the second time I watched the Cocoknits YouTube tutorial, and that helped.

Wednesday WIP

I learned a new thing, Judy’s Magic Cast On. I woke up early and decided to use my freshly caffeinated morning brain to do the new thing so I could get rolling on my Mom’s Franca cardigan. This yarn is so soft. I may need to knit one for myself.

This photo is from Tuesday, and in fact I’m posting this Tuesday and scheduling for Wednesday. Dear Future Alissa, if you don’t know the election results yet, don’t dismay. It may take a few days.

Hi Mom!

My Mom reads my blog and she asked me if I would knit her a gray cardigan. Of course I said yes! I’m going to knit a swatch out of this gray Woolfolk Far to see if she likes the fabric and if it is soft enough. (It’s pretty darn soft!)

I found this cardigan, Franka, which I would love to knit. Look at all that stockinette!

What do you think, Mom? Do you like it? You can tell me next time I talk to you on the phone. I’ll mail you a swatch and print out some pics, too.

Wednesday WIPs

Look at me prompt blogging!

This happy yarn monster is the start of my Hip to be Square throw in The Croft Shetland Tweed in Moss Bank. It is great TV knitting and feels so good to knit! We have a friend who will be selling her couch to us when we move. I think this throw will look lovely on it. I hope I have enough yarn to make it a decent size.

I’m at the crown decreases for Tread. The yarn is more navy than this, but I wanted you to see the pattern. This is a joy to knit and goes so quickly. It’s a one-skein wonder. I may knit another one or two.

My Christmas Cactus is on its second bloom, and I have these dried flowers. They are so pretty I hate to throw them away, but I’m not sure what I can do with them. Ideas?

I am also ready to finally cast on Peerie Flooers. I have the pattern and I have the yarn (Milarrochy Tweed.) It’s silly not to go ahead and cast on. I think it will be a gift. I have someone in mind. This is the pattern that I saw on the BBC show Shetland that restarted my love of knitting.

Tonight I hope to finish Tread. The last two days at work have been heavy-hitters, and at the end of the day all I can do is lay on the couch and drool. Today is a little lighter. Yay, hump day!

Tread

I’m secretly knitting a Tread hat for my son Henry for Christmas. He doesn’t read my blog. JoJo is modeling my progress, but does not want. This wool yarn is so soft. It is Woolfolk Far. If Henry can wear this hat then I’ve found the yarn for his sweater.

We are watching Love Actually and snacking on cheese and crackers while we wait for dinner. All I can think about is pumpkin pie!

You can see we already have our Christmas decorations up. I was in the mood early this year. I got a new stained glass star topper for our little live tree.

My boys are with their Dad today. We alternate holidays. Today I’m so thankful for Bob and his kids. We are having a fun day. I don’t think I am someone who could be alone on holidays. ❤️ Happy Thanksgiving!
